The Morning Ritual Begins with a Dialogue with Yourself

At 6:30 AM, the face in the bathroom mirror still bears the marks of a restless night. Most people would rush to cover it up at this time—concealer, foundation, setting powder, layering on makeup to bury their fatigue beneath the powder. But I’ve gradually realized that instead of painstakingly concealing it, it’s better to first ask your skin: Did you have a good night?

This thought sounds luxurious, but it’s the most practical change I’ve made to my skincare routine lately. The first step after washing my face is no longer piling on bottles and jars, but instead, I take a handful of gel, warm it in my palms, and gently press it onto my face. The texture is slightly thick at first touch, but it melts into a puddle of water as it spreads, like morning mist in the mountains seeping into the skin’s texture—not sticky, not greasy, leaving only a moisturizing base.

This is a recently acquired serum from a Taiwanese brand. Interestingly, it’s not some groundbreaking invention, but rather an extremely meticulous approach to the “preparation” process—the scent of centella asiatica extract, marine-derived hyaluronic acid, and internationally certified xylitol extract. It sounds like a lab-made formula, but in reality, the face only feels one thing: comfort.

The word “comfort” is almost overused in skincare advertisements. But true comfort is when, after applying it, you don’t need to rush to the next step. You can stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself for a while, noticing that the dry lines on your cheeks seem to have been smoothed out, and your complexion has regained a radiance from dullness. That radiance isn’t the forced bleaching effect of whitening ingredients, but rather the natural brightness reflected by a well-hydrated stratum corneum. A research center reportedly conducted a four-week test, and most participants felt this change in “transparency”—the data is scientific, but the change in the face reflected in the mirror is private and cannot be faked.

The Dialectic of “Moisturizing”: Between Heavy and Light

At night, the skincare routine slows down. I usually sit at my desk a little longer, letting the day’s hustle and bustle settle before getting up and going into the bathroom. At this point, after a whole day of exposure to wind and sun, my skin doesn’t need awakening, but rather soothing and nourishment.

In the past, I’ve always been somewhat resistant to creams. Anti-aging creams in my memory were always thick like ointments, leaving my face feeling like it was covered with a film, and my pillowcase was so sticky that I couldn’t sleep soundly. But recently, this revitalizing cream has changed my prejudice. Its texture is between a lotion and a cream. Scooping a spoonful onto my fingertips, it feels as soft and smooth as melted mutton fat, yet surprisingly light on the face, spreading very easily and evenly without needing to stretch it. The best part is the enveloping feeling—you know it’s there, like a perfectly thin blanket, not stuffy or heavy, but definitely retaining moisture.

The frankincense extract and plant squalane in the ingredients sound like an ancient formula meeting modern technology. I’m not sure which part of the process made the difference, but after using it for two weeks straight, I woke up one morning to find my cheeks felt smoother. That “softness” wasn’t just temporary hydration from the toner; it was a return to elasticity and stability in my skin itself. Foundation applied much more smoothly, no longer sticking to fine lines.

A Skincare Product’s Journey and Return

These two products recently received recognition from the Monde Selection Awards in Belgium. This award is highly prestigious in the food and skincare industry, with judges scrutinizing quality, ingredients, and overall user experience. For a Taiwanese brand, this certification is like obtaining an internationally recognized quality passport.

But what I care about more is their performance in daily life. Awards are distant applause, but those few minutes standing in front of the mirror every morning and evening are the real test for a product. For a skincare brand to originate in Taiwan, bring locally developed ingredients and formulas, be recognized on the judging tables in Europe, and then return to our dressing tables—this journey itself is worth telling.

I firmly believe that good skincare isn’t about transforming your face, but about preserving your natural skin in its best condition over time. That condition might not be flawless, but rather stable, soft, and radiant. Like other things in life, instead of pursuing drastic changes, it’s better to find a rhythm you can live with long-term, day-to-day, gentle and consistent.

Ultimately, skincare comes down to “suitability.” Suitable textures, suitable steps, and a sense of ritual that fits your current lifestyle. When international awards endorse quality, and the reflection in the mirror testifies to effectiveness, perhaps we can be less anxious and more at ease—after all, being able to treat your skin well is the gentlest victory of the day.
